Addis Ababa: Brazil’s Ambassador to Ethiopia Jandyr Ferreira dos Santos has vowed to deepen the bilateral relations and cooperation between Brazil and Ethiopia.
The Ambassador told ENA that Ethiopia and Brazil have collaborated for many years across various fields, including agriculture, trade, investment, and development cooperation.
One particularly promising area of future collaboration is agriculture, where Brazil’s expertise in tropical agriculture and food production can be leveraged to enhance Ethiopia’s agricultural productivity and ensure food security, he pointed out.
‘We are set to expand our already existing engagement through technical cooperation projects aimed at boosting agricultural productivity and ensuring food security for our nations,’ he reassured.
According to Ambassador Jandyr Ferreira dos Santosfor, agriculture has the potential to be a cornerstone of Ethiopia-Brazil relations.
“Brazil, with its advanced expertise in tropical agriculture and food production, could strengthen its
partnered with Ethiopia to share knowledge, technology, and best practices to enhance agricultural outputs.’
The two countries are committed to sustainable development and the promotion of renewable energy.
‘Collaborative efforts in this area could include research projects, knowledge exchange, and cooperation in green energy technologies,’ Santos said.
He recalled that the state visit of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to Ethiopia last February symbolized the strengthening ties between the two countries and underscored Brazil’s recognition of Ethiopia’s strategic importance on the global stage.
‘President Lula’s visit not only reinforced our bilateral relations but also highlighted Brazil’s dedication to fostering closer cooperation and mutual support,’ the ambassador underscored.
Given the increasing global interconnectedness, the future of Ethio-Brazilian relations is promising, with significant potential for expansion and deepening of the partnership across several areas, he assured.

In the years ahead, there is considerable scope to enhance trade and investment flows between our two countries. Ethiopia’s growing market, its position in the African continent, and its diverse investment opportunities align with Brazil’s expertise in sectors such as agriculture, clean energy, and manufacturing. Expanding trade agreements, reducing trade barriers, and facilitating business exchanges could further strengthen economic ties.’
As both nations prioritize agricultural development, Santos noted, there is significant potential for deepening cooperation in agricultural innovation and technology transfer.
Ethiopia can benefit from Brazil’s expertise in areas such as precision agriculture, crop management, and biotechnology, which can help address food security challenges and boost productivity, the ambassador stated.
