Delegation from US State Department Confers with Ethiopia’s State Minister of Finance

A delegation led by Dafna Rand – Director, Office of Foreign Assistance from the US State Department visited Ethiopia’s Ministry of Finance.

Rand was accompanied by officials from the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor (DRL) and Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL).

The State Minister of Finance, Semereta Sewasew warmly welcomed the team on Thursday.

During the occasion, Rand has commended the progress that has been made in the country since her last visit and recalled the visit of Secretary of State Blinken as signal of cooperation based on mutual respect and spirit of collaboration.

State Minister Semereta on her part thanked the US government for its uninterrupted support particularly in the provision of basic services.

She has further explained about the progress that has been made since the signing of the peace deal in efforts to rebuild and restore livelihood.

Semereta recounted the challenging times due to recurring drought and conflict which obliterated basic infrastructure and substantially increase the number of Internally Displaced Persons.

Finally, brief discussions were made on the overall macroeconomic situation and the support required to cope with overwhelming challenges.

Both sides agreed to further strengthen the overall development cooperation and enhance their communications in order to overcome some difficulties, according to Finance Ministry.
