Information Minister, ATMIS Chief breif the media on the military operations against Al-Shabaab terrorists

Mogadishu,The Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism of the Federal Government, H.E Daud Aweis Jama and the Special Representative of the African Union Commission in Somalia, and the head of Operation ATMIS, Ambassador Souef Mohamed El-Amine, have reinforced their commitment to intensifying military operations against terrorist groups that pose a threat to security and stability.

The Minister stated that the number of Al-Shabaab surrendering and accepting the government’s call to save their lives is increasing.

“Some members of the Al-Shabaab extremist group are complying with the government’s appeal, as a number of them are surrendering to government forces stationed in the regional states of Hirshabeele, South West, and Galmudug. Minister Daud stated,

We will continue to follow through. The government has prepared a rehabilitation process to guide them towards reintegrating into society before their release.” He added

On the other hand, Amb. Souef praised the successes of the Somali government in freeing some regions and emphasized that ATMIS will continue to support the efforts of the government forces to rid the entire country of extremist groups “Today I joined the Somali Minister of Information to brief on the political situation, the ongoing operations against Al-Shabaab and on ATMIS developments as ATMIS is committed to transfer security responsibilities to SNA.

I would like to reiterate that the ATMIS is expected to transfer security responsibility to SNA by 31st December 2024 and we planned to hold ourselves to that deadline and work closely with FGS”. he said.
