Newly AFRICOM commander arrives in Somalia

Mogadishu The newly appointed commander for United States Africa Command, General Michael Langley, arrived in the Somalia’s capital Mogadishu.

Somalia’s Defence Minister, Abdulkadir Mohamed Nor, held discussions with Langley on range of issues including military cooperation and strengthening US support to Somali Army’s fighting against Al-Shabab terrorists.

“Honored to welcome Gen. Michael Langley, the new AFRICOM Commander to Somalia. The FGS is appreciative of the role of AFRICOM in enhancing peace and security in the region,” tweeted minister Nor.

He added: “We shared our mutual commitment in enhancing the capacity and capabilities of the SNA and fighting against Al-Shabab”.

AFRICOM is one of the eleven unified combatant commands of the United States Department of Defense, headquartered at Kelley Barracks, Stuttgart, Germany.
